  • You will be given a composite time of 1 hour to attempt 100 questions, that means, there will be no sectional time limit for each section.
  • Based on the marks scored in Tier-I i.e. Computer Based Examination, an appropriate number of candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in Tier-II Examination.
  • Tier-I exam, that means, prelims of SSC CGL will be qualifying in nature, i.e, marks obtained in this phase will not be considered while preparing the final merit list.
  • Based on the marks scored in Tier-I exam,  i.e. Computer Based Examination, an appropriate number of candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in Tier-II Examination.
  • Separate cut-offs will be fixed for Paper-II of Tier-II (i.e. for the post of Junior Statistical Officer), Paper-III of Tier-II (i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer), and Paper-I of Tier-II (i.e. for all other posts).
  • There will be a penalty of 0.50 marks for each wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests.
  • If the examination is held in different shifts, the corrected scores obtained by each of the candidates in different sessions will be normalized.

You can understand the examination pattern for the Tier-I examination more clearly from the following table:

  • Among those three papers, Paper-I is compulsory  for all posts, and it is mandatory for the candidates to qualify for all the sections of Paper-I.
  • Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
  • Candidates shortlisted in Tier-1 can appear for Paper-III, which is for the selection of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer positions.
  • Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions: Session-I & Session-II, on the same day. Session-I will include conducting Section-I, Section-II, and Module-I of Section-III. Session-II will include conducting Module-II of Section-III. And hence, the duration of Session-I will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the duration of Session-II will be 15 minutes only.
  • There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II, and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.

All other categories: 30%

Resolution of Tie Cases

In case of a tie in scores among candidates, means that if two or more candidates get the same score in the Tier-II examination, the merit list will be made by applying some pre-defined unique criteria as follows. Its important to note that, these criteria will be applied sequentially in the specified order until the tie case is resolved:

1. Total marks scored in Paper-II & Paper-III of the Tier-II Examination will be considered for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer respectively, if applicable.

2. Then, the marks scored by both candidates in Section-I of Paper-I of the Tier-II Examination will be evaluated and considered for solving the tie case.

3. If still the tie case is not resolved then, the date of birth of the candidates will be taken into consideration, and in this case, the older candidate being given preference.

4. Finally, if the tie case still remains unresolved, the alphabetical order in which the names of the candidates appear will be considered as final step.

SSC CGL Previous Year Cutoff

The cutoff score is defined as, the minimum marks that candidates need to score to qualify for the next stage of the examination. These cutoff marks can be influenced by many factors, such as the number of vacancies available and the overall difficulty level of the examination etc.

The deciding these cutoffs involves a comprehensive analysis, where the examining authorities  considers all possible factors to establish fair benchmarks in terms of cutoffs. After completion of each stage of the examination, the commission releases post-wise and category-wise cutoffs along with the number of candidates available under each category and provids a comprehensive overview of the competitive landscape.

Such transparent disclosure of cutoff scores serves  two main purposes: firstly, it offers candidates insight into their performance compare the established standards set by commission, enabling them to gauge their standing in the competition. Secondly, it improve transparency and accountability of examination process and  instill confidence among candidates in the fairness of the selection process.
